Kids & weddings often equal parents spending the entire reception trying to wrangle little ones, and/or leaving early. Brides often have wedding activity sets for kids to combat this tot-sized problem. But, I’ve noticed that as hard as they may have worked to make every detail of their big day incredibly special, they wind up ordering some tiny wedding coloring book for kids that isn’t at all special. Worse, they just don’t get the job done… which is to occupy the kiddos.
Have you ever met a preschooler? They don’t sit quietly and color in tiny coloring books. 🙂 My 4 year old grandson would take one look at a coloring book of a bride & groom and immediately try to figure out how to turn it into a sword. And, my little granddaughter? She would roll her sweet, crystal blue eyes and proceed to attempt to climb the wedding cake.
So, I’ve played around with what I think may be a better idea. For around $4 each, you can do something fun & unique.
You can copy my kit exactly, or use it as a jumping off point to create your own wedding activity sets that will actually entertain kids. Parents will love you for being so thoughtful, and your venue will love you because there is NO MESS. Yay!!!
Here's what you'll need:
I bought plain kraft bags with jute handles, some embellishments, some tulle, and most importantly, some trinkets & toys kids actually love to play with that I bought for a song.
Small kraft favor bags with handles. I got mine at Target because I wasn’t buying many and they come in packs of 4 for $3. If you’re making more than a few, you can get 50 of them here for less than $20 or so.
Small white flower embellishments. You can find OODLES of darling, little, white flowers here. Pick something you love and hot glue them on the bag. Super quick and easy.
Plastic diamond ring party favors. They come 4 to a package for less than $2 here.
Sparkly white tulle. You’ll want a 6″ x 25 Y spool.
Inside the bags:
A small magnetic drawing board, a little plastic Slinky, & a light-up YoYo. You’ll have to turn the drawing board sort of sideways to have it fit properly. My grandkids LOVE these things. Here’s the trick: go to Dollar Tree to get these because everywhere else you’ll pay far more. The boards are just $1 and the Slinky toys & YoYos are 2 in each box, so .50. Awesome, right?
Finger puppet. I got mine at Ikea, but you can also get them here for less than $5.
Mini bubble favors. You may already have wedding bubbles you can use for these. If not, they are insanely cheap here.
For less than $5 each, you have wedding activity sets for kids that are really FOR KIDS! Aren’t they darling? I hope you love them, but more importantly, I hope the kiddos at your wedding reception think they are awesome sauce. 🙂
