Today I’m sharing a fun Summer craft for kids. A Watercolor Handprint Flamingo!
I’ve been wanting to do a flamingo craft for awhile now! I’ve practiced with regular paints but didn’t quit like how they turned out. So I decided to give watercolors a try. I’m totally loving how it turned out. I wanted to add a mixer of colors to our fun Summer Flamingo!
I did this craft with my son today and we had it done in about 10 minutes. Perfect afternoon craft for the kids!
Now on to this super easy kids craft, you’re going to need to following supplies:
- White Cardstock
- Paint Brush
I pulled out my “handy dandy” watercolors. I seriously LOVE this pack of watercolors, it has such a variety of colors in it.
We we’re ready to get crafting!
Step 1 – Trace Hand
First we traced out my little guys hand lightly. Make sure to make your paper tall. Then lightly go over what you traced with your eraser. You want to lightly see the handprint you traced.
This helps so your not seeing pencil marks through your watercolors
Step 2 – Paint in Flamingo
Next your going to start painting in your watercolors. We just decided on using the lighter colors for our flamingo.
Paint in your outer edge first then fill in the center with your paint strokes. We tried to make it look like feathers. Then add your flamingo beak with some black watercolors.
Step 3 – Add Legs
Now it’s time to add the legs. We wanted to keep the legs simple and only use the pink.
Step 4 – Paint Water
Finally add a little blue at the bottom for your water!! We used several different shades of blue for a cool effect!
This is the final version that my son made. He really had a great time and ended up making several of them. This will be framed and put on the art wall for sure!
I am really happy with how this craft turned out. I would love to get real adult watercolors and make a flamingo on a piece of canvas for the house.
See we had this craft done in no time. I can’t wait to make some more with the other boys. Handprint craft are truly my favorite to do with the kids.
